"I just got finished saying that deterrence was not very effective when dealing with terrorists, that it is better to take the offensive and destroy them and their assets." How do you know that? Palestinian terrorists are motivated in part by the knowledge that their families will receive considerable wealth if they blow themselves up and take a bunch of Israelis with them. Clearly their concern for their families helps to motivate them. Who is to say that concern for their families would not also deter them? I don't think we can beat the anti-U.S. terrorists without a willingness to shed some blood. It is barbaric and the necessity is regretable, but better them than us.
