Global Cooling is a bigger threat. Look at the globe. A little warming would be good. Heck an asteriod hit is a bigger threat, that's why I was for the Reagan's SDS, we could aim it out and deflect an asteroid

I totally agree, for everyone's sake, it should be curbed. It is not like China does not want to do anything. Up till 2002, China tried everything he could to switch from using coals (most of them are bad-type of coals) to using oil, so the emission was actually down even as GDP increased. But from last year, the oil shortage hit unexpectedly (all Zhu Rongji's fault) so then have to start to use a lot of coals too.

But all things considered, this oil shortage is not necessarily a bad thing. It forces China to reconsider its development model and national energy structure.

BTW, I read that the source of ChangJiang (Yangtze river) has shrinked 75 meters annually for the last 10 years. Something definitely needs to be done, otherwise it is not far fetched that ChangJiang may become half dry 50 years from now.
