I have voted for Republicans in the past, and even voted for Shrub's dad, as I felt he had done an extraordinary job in building a real international coalition to establish a principle of standing shoulder to shoulder against aggression by state against state.

yes, I know 9/11 changed everything....but did it really? I am a devoted fiscal conservative and Bush's refusal to pay any attention to the deficit alarms me even more than most of his other policies.

Bush strikes me as lacking any intellectual curiousity. I may be wrong, but he just seems unable to see nuance..and we live in a vividly nuanced world.

I could probably vote for McCain. Depends on the time and place. Guiliani...man, I don't know. There are parts of him that make my flesh creep. Frist..much too early to tell.

On the dems, I used to be a fan of the other Kerrey, Bob, because he was the only guy actually dealing with the Social Security and Medicare problem. He seemed level-headed and focused on fiscal soundness, o.k. on defense. Bright. But he burned out and his 9/11 commission work did not knock me over.

Among this year's crop of demos....none truly excited me. But I have great respect for Robert Rubin and much of the Clinton treasury team. I don't think electing Kerry is going to result in any kind of fiscal disaster...rather the opposite. I do think incenting employers to keep jobs in America is a good short-term idea. A tax credit, like others, but one that pays you back in other ways.

Kerry is the lesser of two evils for me.
