All you are asserting is a version of "will prevailing", insofar as their stake in their culture and religion can never be as great as our stake in the outcome. I even agree, to the extent that we cannot change whole cloth their culture, all we can do is try to persuade them of the value of democratic competition over overt civil war, and help them try to build the requisite institutions. I do not consider that we are trying to force our will on the Iraqis as a whole, and if we are, that is, if opposition is as widespread and as deep as you seem to think, I acknowledge that we will fail. All we can do is try to break the armed resistance of those who would impose a renewed dictatorship on the Iraqi people.
