Ted, the 1st Amendment does not grant people the right not to be offended. Some provisions might be made to protect public decency, such as anti-nudity laws, but it's a sad time when the cross is considered just as offensive as, say, a Nazi symbol.

You are twisting things. The cross is not an offensive symbol....but some people would be offended that the cross is displayed in public buildings while the Menorah or the Koran is not.

Seriously, do you understand the responsibility one has living in a democracy? It means doing the right thing even when you don't want to.

I don't have any simple, cut-n-dried solutions here, other than to try and increase the tolerance among average citizens. And one way of doing that is to break out of our ideological comfort zones. Vague answers, I know, but more pragmatic than simply wishing for world peace.

Why don't you break out of your ideological comfort zone, and try and understand that the cross is an inappropriate symbol for a governmental public building.
