OUTSIDE THE BOX

A Man of Conviction
Why Bush will win.

A week ago John Kerry climbed into this year's equivalent of Michael Dukakis's tank--a crisply pressed, fully tailored haute couture hunting suit, capped by an Armani-looking chapeau. The visual impact was Boston-effete and no doubt the last straw for every bluejeaned, layered-jacketed and baseball-capped hunter the Kerry campaign sought to persuade.

How do you say 'pandering' in Yiddish?: Clinton wearing yarmulke

jewishworldreview.com | (KRT) BOCA RATON, Fla. — Greeted by cries of "Shalom!" and "We love you, Bill!" former President Bill Clinton plunged into the political tussle for South Florida's Jewish voters yesterday, one of several prominent visitors intent on tipping the balance of a very close presidential election.

The final scramble for voter support in Florida, the biggest swing state, has drawn candidates and their surrogates almost daily. In this feverish environment, every voter is considered crucial. And in South Florida, Jewish voters took center stage on Tuesday.

While Clinton vouched for Democratic candidate John Kerry at the B'Nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, Republican organizers brought in former New York Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, to tout President Bush at a rally at Boca Pointe.

In the 2000 election, 7.7 million more women than men voted. Having fought for the right to vote - when many courageous suffragettes were beaten, jailed and tortured - women have become conscientious citizens.

Indeed, after 9/11 when many Americans admitted to knowing not much about this new enemy, Islamofascism, women clamored for information. Soon, we developed a new sophistication about the world.

We learned that all countries have no permanent allies, only permanent interests; that the U.N. is corrupt, cruel and shiftless; and that former allies could betray us by valuing profit above all else. More importantly, we learned that we and our children are not safe. In the decades leading up to 9/11 while blissfully ignorant of the world around us, American families became Target Number One of savages beyond description.
