<Why in poll after poll do military members overwhelmingly say they are going to vote for Bush vs Kerry?>

That is simple enough -- the military is a unique institution in which there is one overarching prime directive: follow orders. The orders come from Bush and Rumsfeld. The orders are followed. From that point on it is a matter of discipline. The soldiers are ding nothing wrong -- absolutely nothing but following orders. They must and do honor the chain of command. Now follow the chain of command to the top levels. Ask the military brass (including those fired or shoved aside for speaking their minds during the planning stage) -- ask them who they are going to vote for and you might be very profoundly surprised.
