Geoff,

I understand the desire and think making things fair generally for all players in the markets sounds like a laudable idea -- my view is a pragmatic one -- there will never be equality in the markets for little players like us and those who wield largers sums of money. I just won't look for it. I don't think it can happen.

Let me share something with you. Shortly after the market timing story broke, the folks responsible for managing my 401k sent me a letter regarding market timing and what "they were going to do about it." Their solution: They placed restrictions on what I could do. If I sold one of their funds, I was not allowed to go back into the same fund within the space of one month.

There is a lesson here -- regulators more often than not hurt the folks they are supposedly trying to help.
