Polish Hostage Captured By Salafi Brigades of Abu Baker Siddik

Baghdad, Iraq, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A hitherto unknown group calling itself the Salafi Brigades of Abu Baker Siddik said Thursday it kidnapped a Polish woman in Iraq.

A videotape broadcast on al-Jazeera television showed the hostage kneeling in front of two masked men with one pointing a gun at her head.

The group called for the withdrawal of Poland's estimated 2,500 troops in Iraq and the release of Iraqi women prisoners held by the U.S. forces in Abu Ghraib prison, west of Baghdad.

The hostage, who was not identified beyond being a Polish national, said she has been living in Iraq for a long time and asked her government to meet the kidnappers' demands to save her life.

But the Polish defense minister said in the first official comment on the kidnapping that his government rejects the kidnappers' demand to pull out Polish troops from Iraq.

Another woman, Margaret Hassan, a Briton of Iraqi origin, is also held hostage in Iraq.

Hassan, who heads the CARE International charity in Iraq, was kidnapped two weeks ago while driving to work in Baghdad. No group has yet claimed responsibility
