That is true. The salary level was significantly lower in 1959 than now.

But after those four months of slaving away in '59, if you put that $1000 cash in your pocket and travelled back to '03, you'd discover it was only worth $164 in terms of what you could buy compared to the era in which you earned it.

I think it would be smarter to go forwards in the time machine and work there. You could jump, say, to 2024, work a few months at Starbucks, and come back with billions. And that's just from the tip jar.
