Bush 41 and Bush 43 both let the Generals run the war. Best way to do it. Agree that 41 did, but not 43. Rumsfeld is responsible for a lot of what has happened, most of which IMO is directly related to having insufficient troops. W let Rummie have his way on this point. Rummie whittled away the number of recommended troops in a huge way--heck, he wanted to go in orginally with 50,000, which may have been a thought-out negotiating position. When Shinseki and White [Sec. of the Army] protested, testified before Congress truthfully like they are supposed to do, they were sacked. Don't worry, I'm not voting for Kerry, but the facts are the facts. If things turn out OK, Rummie will be a genius. If not, worse than McNamara.
