Nobody's going to attack New Orleans, except Formosan termites.

You'd be surprised at how strategic NO really is.

1.- The Huey P. Long Bridge is one of the major railroad bridges crossing the Mississippi; perhaps the most strategically significant.

2.- Blocking Head of Passes downriver could stifle shipping and commerce up and down the Mississippi for a long time. Recall that the NO-Baton Rouge corridor is the largest port in the world.

3.- There's a nuclear power plant very close by.

4.- Although only somewhat near, the LOOP facility is one of the major oil-offloading facilities servicing the US.

NO is unfortunately a critical choke point. And so lackadaisial in attitude. I see very few local signs that its strategic significance is understood.
