Genencor Third-Quarter Profit Falls 27 Percent on Increased Expenses

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) -- Biotech company Genencor International Inc. reported Thursday that third-quarter earnings fell from the year ago period because of increased general and administrative expenses and third party consulting fees.
Quarterly earnings fell to $3 million, or 2 cents per share, from $4.1 million, or 4 cents per share, last year.

Revenue for the period rose 8 percent to $101.9 million from $94.1 million because of market acceptance of the company's alcohol fermentation, carbohydrate processing and food, feed and specialty products along with double-digit sales growth in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

The company reaffirms its guidance for full-year earnings of 38 cents to 40 cents per share on revenue of $400 million to $406 million.
