The failed smearvets campaign was perhaps the dirtiest most dishonest dishonorable trick in modern poliitical history. OInclude in it the smear campaigns against Cleland and McCain, and if Wes Clark were running he'd be getting smeared too. Fortunately nobody but the idiots on the far right believe any of it anymore. The liars have failed, and gotten rich doing so. In the future, when the campaign is over, the lies will be fully disproven. Someone will write a book about it ripping apart and exposing every single smearvet lie and the people behind them. They will also make clear that the reason Nixon and Colson apologized to Kerry was that they tried this same thing in 1971 and failed to find anything wrong with Kerry's record, during the war or after. Also, Kerry has already apologized for some of his atrocity language, which he admitted was over the top, but he stands by the basic truth of it. And it was true. It was also effective in helping end the war and bring our guys back home earlier.
