I would suggest that judging what might very well be a widespread and long-term series of requests for money based on hard luck stories as okay simply because they were not reported as TOU violations at the time is illogical.

First, I would hope that SI does not condone panhandling of any type based on it being wrong-- a situation ripe for advantage-taking-- rather than ignored (until now) by SI members.

The fact that it went on in private, individually, and often with the express request that it not be repeated to others was quite likely the reason it was not reported until now.

And make no mistake, I am hereby reporting it.

I believe this case clearly falls in line with SI's obligation to protect, as history of protecting, its members from stock scammers and nuisance advertizers, and the verbally offensive (in some cases.)

Those avenues aren't nearly as easy to use in a systematic and predatory way for six years going on now. A "confidence man" working a room of SI clientele in a private environment has significantly easier target-rich enterprise.

"Nobody is blaming or calling for action by the US Postal Service, the telcos, FedEx, or their Internet service provider. "

and...

"I've yet to see anyone who claims to have filed a complaint at the time it occurred versus years after the fact."

None of us knew, and how would we? I only knew about Michal's situation a couple years ago, by accident. And, the contents of this thread have been a surprise to each of us, on an individual level. Nobody knew till we all got together to swap circumstances.

As long as there are suckers there will be conmen(women)to play the game.

The reason for not filing a complaint at the time it occurred versus years after the fact is simply...embarrassment.

When others finally come forward, like sexual abuse by the priest, the embarrassment part is no longer an issue and everyone can jump on the bandwagon.
