"Intel had $2,373M operating income and microprocessor sales were $5,928M last quarter. So if their ASP dropped by 40%, they would be losing money. (100*2373/5928=40) That's an ASP of about $90, maybe $95.

I don't think an average ASP of $90 at Intel would eat into AMD's market share by much. Intel-based products would still be slightly more expensive than AMD-based products, so there would be little incentive to switch. And AMD would still own the high end where Intel can't produce anything."

Hope you don't mind, but from my vantage point as you have wrapped up the issue most succinctly, thought it might be worth repeating in bolded type...(seems that elmo and his alter other, wrong on his failsafe investment strategy, wrong on his 90nm call on AMD product, has indeed reincarnated and is now dithering on his fallback theme of production costs...always enuf bushes in any such discussion for both elmo and his alter other to hide behind to carry on the discussion ad infinitum)...
