Kerry is dominant in swing state air war _________________________ by kos Fri Oct 29th, 2004 at 20:19:25 GMT dailykos.com In a media conference call, the Kerry campaign gave these eye-opening stats regarding advertising in Ohio and Florida in the stretch run to the election: Ohio Kerry: 18,000 points Bush: 13,000 points Florida Kerry: 17,000 points Bush: 12,000 points Even after accounting for party and 527 advertising, the good guys retain a 4-5,000 point lead in advertising over the evil empire. In other words, more Kerry ads are running than Bush ads, at over a 4-3 ratio. How did this happen? The Kerry campaign was faced with a dilemma this summer. Both campaigns had an equal amount of money to spend in the race, but Democrats had to stretch it out for 13 weeks, the GOP over 8. So Kerry went dark in August and conserved his resources for the final weeks of the campaign. Bush, on the other hand, went nuclear on Kerry after his convention. The Kerry campaign concedes that Bush got a post-convention bump, but they attribute the surge more to the massive Bush media blitz than to the convention itself. Now, in the final hours of the game, the Kerry campaign has more money to saturate battleground states than Bush does, and with the numbers trending in our direction, it looks like the gamble (and it was a gamble) should pay off.
