"The New Soldier" is of a certain place and time and it was put out after Kerry left the VVAW, without his approval. Especially the cover of it. Kerry left the VVAW because they were beginning to get too radical. Kerry wanted to be a moderate and was, as the FBI surveillance reports now confirm. If you want to talk about 1971, also let's look at GW Bush. The admission of his father I posted earlier proves that GW lied about his Air Guard service. He did go AWOl and leave early. He was only excused because of his last name. He also was covering up something bad that year, perhaps a drug arrest because we know he did community service, which was quite unlike him, being the spoiled elitist party boy.
