The MSNBC documentary discredits the smearvets, but at the same time reminds us that there are true believers on the rightwing who see things their own way, and to this day do not see Vitnam for what it was, a terrible horrendous mistake. These men are not bad Americans, they're just blinded by prejudices which they do not see as prejudices. In fact, American right or wrong is their creed. And they would support any war, no matter how wrong, if waged by a rightwing president. So it is with John O'Neill, Nixon's handpicked rival to Kerry, especially as his 35 year grudge against Kerry is fueled by the personal jealousy of seeing Kerry climb toward the highest office in the land, and deserve it. To his credit, O'Neill also calls Bush "an empty suit". So I'll give him that at least. But the rest of it is lies and distortions, or at least smearvets own deeply skewed vision of reality.
