Japan was already defeated when we dropped on Nagasaki. McNamara admits this. There was a point where it was just pure overkill. Curtis Lemay enjoyed that kind of thing. Same with Vietnam, bombing them into the stone age. And for what? It was wrong.

My one brother was in the USMC and poised to invade Japan, another brother was on the aircraft carrier Roosevelt poised to support the invasion. I may have lost them both had those bombs been dropped PLUS to the liberal left, I might mention that Japan would likely have lost 2-3 TIMES as many civilians as we would have had casualties. So, horrible as it sounds those atomic bombs saved a lot of lives on both sides. jdn
