So you're telling me that the left has no interest in big education bills? Really? They also have no interest in providing perscription drugs on Medicare? Really? The bottom line is the left want's to do all these things, they just think Bush didn't do them well enough (not enough $$ for thrown at it). No, you are suggesting Bush did it to placate the left. I disagree. Besides, it was the equivalent of throwing a few crumbs to an elephant.frankly, he does it not to please the left but to get more people under the GOP umbrella. So if it was anyone but Bush, it would be reaching out, but since it is Bush it's some evil plan to control more people. Come on, be honest about it. I didn't say it was evil..........I simply clarified what I see as his reasons for his health care and education bills. You can see that there wasn't much forethought as to what Bush hoped to accomplish. The education bill was underfunded and the amount of the health care bill was wrong. It says to me that either the Bush administration is incompetent, or they just didn't care about either cause. Take your pick. Reaching out to the other side is trying to find some middle ground. He gave you an education bill, and medicare drugs, but without the full pricetag you guys were looking for. His base would rather not have these bills at all. Is that not trying to find a middle ground? I see your point and I understand from your prospective why you think its a decent attempt at unification. However, Bush presented himself in 2000 as a compassionate conservative. He's been anything but compassionate. For me, he is the stuff of my nightmares. Sorry that you don't see it that way........its why I really question whether its worth trying to stay as one nation. If we are this divided in our views, why maintain the pretense of "one nation under God". In any case, there is very little that Bush could do to make me happy now other than to vacate the WH.Today liberals don't want to work with anyone. If they don't have the upper hand, they pack up their toys and go home. For examples, see the judicial process in the Senate, and the dems in the TX state house. Sad. You know, Brian, that's a crock. You all spout the party line whether you know if its creditable or not. Never, absolutely never, has any president been so divisive as this one. He or his cohorts openly lie and then deny it when confronted with the lie. Frankly, I am amazed that anything gets done in Congress now. And if my Dem. reps want to be obstructionist so be it. I am behind them 100%. The GOP has its agenda, and its ugly and anti human. Bush is taking this nation backwards and I refuse to go in that direction. ted
