That is a good question. Some time back there was a discussion about overseas manufacturing, presumably US owned, and how this might be credited to domestic manufacturing simply by packaging in the US or by adding some minor component and taking credit for the end price.

Also, I wonder about GE, GM, Ford, etc. who are really banks, and earn their profits from lending. Are these banking components added to "manufacturing"?
