'Fahrenheit 9/11' Gets Election-Eve Pay-TV Airing

9 minutes ago Entertainment - Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Filmmaker Michael Moore and distributors behind "Fahrenheit 9/11" have clinched last-minute deals to bring his anti-Bush documentary to pay-per-view television and the Internet on the eve of the U.S. presidential election.

Moore's scathing critique of President Bush (news - web sites) and his conduct of the war in Iraq (news - web sites) will be offered on Monday night to the 10 million-plus subscribers of the satellite-based Dish Network, owned by EchoStar Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:DISH - news)

The film also will be available for online streaming Monday night to more than 30 million households with broadband Internet access through video-on-demand service CinemaNow.

The Dish and CinemaNow deals add to an agreement reached last week for two Monday night pay-per-view showings of the film by Los Angeles-based TVN Entertainment, which reaches about 1 million homes through various cable systems.

"The potential audience out there is quite large for this," said Mark Benoit, a spokesman for Moore told Reuters.

The two-hour film will be priced on all three platforms at $9.95 per showing. Moore and the Fellowship Adventure Group, which holds rights to the movie, will donate their portion of the profits to a veterans charity, Benoit said.

Fellowship Adventure was formed by Miramax cho-chairs Bob and Harvey Weinstein to buy back rights to "Fahrenheit 9/11" and distribute it after corporate parent the Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS - news) declined to release the documentary.

Moore's film has grossed nearly $120 million at the U.S. box office since its theatrical release in June.

categorizing is in no way intolerant

But, you offered me a choice of several categories, asking to which - I should tell you - I belong -- with all of the choices being totally demeaning. Joe Stalin would "categorize" a person as an "enemy of the people" - and such categorizing was a death sentence.

The Right does not have a monopoly on stupidity. In MY experience of talking with many, many people, do you know what were the most common replies to the question as to why they support Kerry? "I hate Bush!" "Bush is a moron!" - and that was the extent of their wisdom - and a good many of those people are physicians, professors, etc. Go figure.

I am not uncomfortable with the intellectual basis for my support for Bush. And my rejection of Kerry was not casual. I gave it enough thought.

Here is a link to a rather lengthy article by Norman Podhoretz, where he does a fairly good job spelling out the so-called "Bush Doctrine". Don't expect anyone to buy into it... but in the name of "tolerance" many would do well to familiarize themselves with some of the works by pro-Bush intellectuals.

<tribally disconnected from the intellect>

Glad you filled in on that one. In contrast, I guess that is what conservative critics could use to attack sensitive issues supported by the Democrats. For example, women overwhelmingly support abortion while logic would recognize the act as immoral. In the year 2004, what teenage girl does not recognize birth control? Are all female voters supporting abortion, "tribally disconnected from their intellect."

I have no problem with women supporting their individual rights above their responsibility to the universe as a whole. If they want to act like they don't know how to take the pill or the patch or an IUD, that is fine. However, the level of information in our society is pretty good. How many deaths were at the hands of young, unwed mothers practicing their rights. How many could have been prevented if the girl used birth control? I prefer to believe that liberal values which encourage women to rid their bodies of unwanted children is illogical. Teach the women not to get pregnant.

Here is another sore subject. How can we anticipate any signs of morality since the liberals have eliminated the presence of God from our schools, courts, and every state sponsored institution? All religions point to a single God. Why don't the liberals promote the identification of different messengers of the word of God as it has been taught in the different civilizaitons of the world under the main religious groupings - Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. If we taught people the values of each different religion rather than acting like the belief of God is inappropriate, we could all accept and practice our spiritual connection with God in many different ways.

Why can't the liberals push the limits of their religious intolerance just a little bit so that we can spare the word God for our future generation? Why are they so apt to reject all principles of religion and then expect everyone to act in an enlighted way? Differences of opinion do not lead to disconnection from the intellect. Sometimes it is about faith, something which has been systematically ridiculed in our ACLU society.

Freedom is protected by the ACLU which has attempted to rid society of all religious intolerance. I am fine with that, but I will be damned if we have to sit back and suffer religious persecution from Islamic terrorists. As we get lectured from religious zealots like Bin Laden for not having any religious commitment, he is attacking the liberal idealists wanting to extend support to Islamic terrorists.

Isn't it true that Islamic leaders who call for the death of christian and Jewish leaders are disconnected from their intellect. Since Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all share the same God but with different messengers, how could the Islamic clerics justify the call for the death of other civilizations. Although I may respect their fear that international cooperation could impair their near totalitarian state, they need to adopt an attitude of cooperation.
