I doubt too many people at 12 Step meetings would laugh at a genetic susceptibility to addiction. The correlation between genetics and addiction is well established. In fact, I'm fairly certain most folks at any Al-Anon meeting would laugh themselves sick if you denied a connection between addiction and genetics. * * * * * * addiction is an extremely complex phenomenon where genetics, thus biological response, plus availability, plus peer pressure, plus life stresses, plus culture, all come into play. This sentence will get a big round of laughter from the regular Saturday night 12 step meeting. You'd have them rolling in the aisles.
