There is an outside chance Jersey goes red. Bush would have to win nationally by over 3 or 4 points for this to materialize. New Jersyans id democrats with corruption. They havent forgotten florio and the huge surprise tax increase in the 80s. Then sleazy Toricelli and the sleazy Lausenberg takeover engineered by the courts. Now its McSleezy which has little to do with him being gay and alot with him resigning but not permitting an election in this cycle thus we get an appointed hack. There is a southern part of NJ that is more like South Ohio than Phillie. There is a northern part that sustained 700 casualties from 9/11. There is an overall large catholic reagan democratic component as well--folks who at times will vote cultural issues over perceived economic interests. And there have been some oddball results in the past as when in the 80s bill bradley almost lost to the then unknown christy whitman because tax cutter bradley had failed to speak out against the hated florio tax attack.
Having said that its more likely that kerry will win by 10 than bush will win by 1, but........ mike
