Could be why his wife & daughter live in France - they do not want to be too near him and the French will take care of his kind, they are a lot alike.

If they never say exactly what's wrong with him, or the diagnosis is vague, that would be the clincher for me.


Not for me. First, remember how cancer carried a stigma forty years ago, how the word was said in whispers? That's still true among the Palestinians, who are not exactly known for their progressive attitudes. Second, whatever Arafat has, the circle around him are going to try to suppress bad news for as long as humanly possible, because once it's clear that he's not coming back, the last of their influence will be gone.
