Naw, me neither. Well, we were somewhat nervous as the lights dimmed. I am one of these people who loves to sit on the front row. I love being close enough to touch the threads hanging from the costumes, feel the tension of dropped lines, see the sweat, and watch the chemistry happen closeup. But in deference to my son's naked bottom, I sat four rows back.- in case I was tempted to, I dunno, start powdering and diapering. I can't say I thought the play was that great a piece of writing. It was by DOuglas Carter Beane who did "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything.." Rich WASPS angsting over life makes me want to smack people around, but Ammo was wonderful as the male lead. He is a very natural actor with great comic timing. We saw it both Fri and Sat and I was amazed at the differences in his performances. Some actors are totally predictable-- saying the same line the same way. Ammo calls this manufacturing. He believes (and they are taught) that when you are really "in the moment" the interpretation will vary and if you are acting with someone who is equally good, it sparks differences as you react to each other. He and the other male lead were fantastic together. And he looked very, very good naked. Really you saw him only a bit- he had a pile of clothes held in front of him, and the light was dim, so you just saw enough to know bygod, that boy IS naked. And the lines are funny enough that you are laughing and not focusing on the naked part-- well, unless you are the mother. The female lead, on the other hand, actually was topless in the postsex scene, which made me uncomfortable. I kept thinking how glad I was she wasn't mine. Nudity unless it's really really necessary to the plot strikes me as- um- purposeless? and I think it distracted her as an actress from really being "in the moment"-- at least in the way she should have been. I love all these actory terms. It was great to see Ammo-- though also sad because this is probably the last show we will see him in at USC. Next semester, they present the "Senior Showcase", when agents and casting directors from the LA area are invited to watch the senior BFAs (there are only 14 left now from a class that started at 22)as they present a monologue and a scene for two. If they see something they like, they will contact the actor (they are given headshots and resumes when they come in) and hopefully you get an agent. Usually several do. Otherwise, in June you start waiting tables and doing the rounds. He and his three roommates are all staying in LA to give it a shot and will live together, which we are happy about. We love his roommates and it make a great support system. They are all different types and that's good, too. Still, I am sad. He is so grown-up. Naked or not.
