>are serious crimes down dramatically?<

Google "California" and "crime rate". I saw somewhere that they're half what they were before 3 strikes, but I can't find that article in the 60 seconds I looked. Here are random quotes:

"Reynolds cites several statistics as reasons for keeping Three Strikes intact, among them the lowest state crime rate in 39 years."

"After 10 years of pursuing the will of the California voters, we can see real results. The crime rate in California has dropped more than twice the national average. Prisons are filled with the serious and violent offenders intended, and there are 2 million California citizens who were spared being victims of violent crime. In short, "three strikes" has worked."
