The attitude that bin Laden *IS* the war on terror is folly.

The "war on terror" is about eliminating the threat of terrorism, not getting revenge on bin Laden. Yes, we all want bin Laden dead, and in time, that will come.

But the point is that we have been successful in preventing another attack on our soil -- something people doubted could be done right after 9/11. And the consensus view is that bin Laden's video from last week was "softer"--almost conciliatory-- than previous rhetoric (although some expert on the subject claimed last night that a proper translation amounts to a threat for any states that vote for Bush and immunity for Kerry states).

I suppose having bin Laden offer immunity if you vote for Kerry is very suggestive of who Americans OUGHT to be voting for today...
