Then where are the insurgents getting all their ammo? There is not end to the bombings and shootings.

There was ammo and explosives all over Iraq. Some of the insurgents are former agents of Saddam, Baath party militia members, Fedayen Sadam members, the special Republican Guard. These people were given weapons by Saddam's regime. Others who were not agents of Saddam were given weapons at certain times in the past and esp. before the invasion. Then there was the desegregation of Saddam's army, weapons got left all over the place. Also if any more are needed (and there were so many weapons in Iraq that more might not be needed) weapons can be smuggled in from Iran and Syria. The Al Qaeda types probably brought weapons and explosives with them when they entered the country. This one weapons dump is really close to a non-issue in strategic terms whether or not its an issue in the election.

We are stationed at the borders so that crossing them is a difficult process.

Moving large convoys of heavy weapons across the border would be difficult. Moving weapons in small batches probably isn't to hard. Look at the difficulty in controlling illegal immigration and drug smuggling in the US. Sure we have a lot of people in Iraq but they have other duties besides watching the border. A reasonably skilled smuggler shouldn't have too much problem getting some stuff in. And in any case Iraq was full of weapons from the start.
