re: I attend a non-denominational church, and I don't really keep up with this sort of news.

Really, which one?

And did you ever get a chance to read The Da Vinchi Code (sp?)?

Ten, this is the first I've read of Bush's talk with the SB church. I couldn't imagine an actual title being given, but the idea of "annointed" leaders is rather strong. The SB church has been quite different from the Baptist church at large for a long time. "Southern Cross" is a great book to read on the coming of both the Baptists and the Methodists to the south and gives a good understanding of the area, as well, and how religion works in life here.

My relatives are almost all SBs, except for some cousins who have branched out. But they are milder, and we don't talk politics. :) I'd be surprised to hear them think of Bush as "annointed", but that is a small sample, and far more moderate than most. Most of my church visiting has been to small, evangelical and non-denominational churches here. The SBs scare me a little. I mean no offense with that, but they have some ideas I can't cotten to. I still haven't visited a snake-handling church, but one of these days I'll get to Sand Mountain. :)
