New Hampshire and Michigan go to Kerry
Wed 3 November, 2004 07:36

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New Hampshire and Michigan voters have backed John Kerry in the U.S. presidential election, putting key swing states on the Democrat's side in his contest with Republican President George W. Bush, television networks report.

Fox and CNN said New Hampshire, a traditionally Republican state with four votes in the Electoral College, had voted for Kerry this time around. It had narrowly backed Bush in 2000.

CBS and Fox projected Kerry winning Michigan which has 17 votes in the Electoral College, which selects the president based on results in each state. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win the White House.
