According to MEMRI. Or actually, apparently, according to some Islamist web site MEMRI dug up. Somehow, I doubt you would accept the interpretion of some random Islamist web site if it went in a direction you didn't like, but that's just a guess. If you actually read the transcript, english.aljazeera.net , MEMRI's conveniently cooked interpretation looks extremely dubious. Though picking one sentence totally out of context is, of course, a well-worn technique, in your imimitable " 'In a war that seems more like a quagmire every day, ' / has Filkins ever written an article on Iraq without this sentence? " style. Anyway, extreme dubiousness would hardly be a detriment to true believer "evidentiary" standards or anything.

I don't happen to agree with MEMRI. Taking Al Jazeera's translation at face value, since I've no reason not to, and prior translations done by CNN in real time as the tape was aired - which also happen to agree with Al Jazeera, *and* factoring in the reference to Sweden, it seems more likely that OBL is refering to nation-states.

If I'm wrong, then all US states are under threat, since OBL said clearly "Kerry nor Bush" can protect you. If he was hoping for a Nader win, in any state let alone the country, then he really is insane and somehow I don't believe that.
