I think Susan was taken aback by Hume's into as "miss know it all" intro. He was being humorous, and apoligized after.

Susan was crossing her arms. When humans cross their arms, it is a defensive move. But she did say she was "wide open" (waving of the hands/arms)when challenged about the numbers.
