Well, it's been one hell of a weekend. For the past four days we've been working our butts off nonstop... calling, canvassing, talking to anyone and everyone - one voter at a time... and Pennsylvania, including my home county, is in the Kerry column with room to spare. I must relate what happened this morning: In working the outside the polls today I greeted a grizzled, hobbled old man and offered him some Kerry literature. He glared at me for a few seconds before pointing to his cap, bearing the insignia of the Korean War. "Do you see that?" He demanded loudly. "Yes", I replied... and before I could say more he went on: "I was in Korea. I got a Purple Heart. I got a Silver Star. I don't need no Kerry political shit..." (Oh, boy... I thought to myself...) but he continued... "...to tell me Kerry's a good man. What those damned Republicans and that asshole Bush tried to do to Kerry is a damned shame, a kick in the ass to me and every other grunt who ever wore a uniform. They degraded everything I fought for. I'm here to kick Bush's ass." I had a drink for him when I got home a few minutes ago. I'll go to bed tonight thinking of him... and I'll remember him for a long, long time. Hopefully, if exit polls in the remaining states hold, as they have in the states that reported so far, that grizzled old man will smile come January 20th...
