Ed > Bush looks like a winner depending on Florida ....

As you now know, he took Florida and looks ready to take Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico, too. Republicans also increased their majority in the Senate.

So, it seems W will win and be president for another 4 years.

Except that those who were directly affected by 911, in other words the residents of New Jersey, New York and Washington DC, voted Democrat.

No, as I see it, this marks the rise of religious fundamentalism and its intrusion into politics, whether tacitly or directly. Democrats may have voted on the issues and against W on the basis of his foreign policy, but a strong block of Republicans voted just on the basis of their "belief" in W and their concern over "moral" issues, like gay marriage and abortion. And, of course, the media did its bit.

I have to say I feel very sorry for those Americans who do not subscribe to the dictates of the Republican Party and who look to the Constitution for protection of their "rights". All that is going to be swept away in a "new", "revisionist", America, in fact, an America that none of us will recognize in time to come. US foreign policy will be taking an even harder line, generally, on those who don't fall in line with its dictates and, in turn, the world will be taking a harder line against the US. These will not be happy times.
