This country is a much worse place than I ever would've thought.

Yup. That's the realization I had in 2000. Its seems we are split almost in half with the conservatives having control.

Great. Perhaps you ought to try some of the others.

I think this is a major problem with the Left today.

zofsilence, RE: "This country is a much worse place than I ever would've thought."

Would have to agree with this statement.

It may be a good time for women to shop around for a better country - this is because things are only going to get worse in the next few years. Even when the country catches up to being motivated for equality, we'll still have more than 350 Judges hand picked by Bush. At least CA is a bit more advanced for women's rights, but even here we will be hampered by hand-picked RW judges.

In case you didn't know, here's one example of how the USA does medical research for women - they give it to military for them to do it:

fedgrants.gov

"Department of Defense (DOD) Ovarian Cancer Research Program"

Ironic too, when you consider three years ago Powell reported (before the war) 20% of the miliary women answering a survey said they were raped or sexually harrassed in the miliary.

(Sarcasm on) You'll also love the amount of money allocated - a whopping $4M. That's less money than a Silicon Valley startup raises. (Sarcasm off)

On a different note, I've been thinking for some time now I should increase my holdings outside the USA. History has shown when the President's party matches the party of the majority in Congress, deficits increase substantially. The best predictor of fiscal responsibility or fiscal deficits is actually neither party, but instead it's whether or not one party dominates both the White House and Congress. Apparently, the one party will be dominating both the White House and Congress, which is a bad financial predictor for the deficits.

On a different note, the other week the Federal Reserve issued a headsup on how they predict the dollar will experience a "small adjustment downward" in the future due to the increase in deficit spending. Expect the cost of goods and assets to increase as the dollar decreases. The question is by "how much"? The answer is no one knows but this may be time to increase investments a bit more into the other growing countries to diversify risk of the deficit, over-extended spending. Buffett was right on this.

I do believe Bush is a bad omen for this country: a lot of bad stuff has already happened, poor judgment, unilateral arrogance of a supreme power, I wonder if this is almost a prelude to the power loss of the USA.

The key question: is this a pause until the rest of the country catches up, or is it a prelude to our country's future - will it go downhill further?

I think I'm going to keep my ears open to hear where the smart students go - they usually are the best predictor of the future. I know last year, we had a huge hit - first time in 30 or 50 years, our country had a decrease in the # of engineering students that wanted to go to school in the USA, or some such statistic. That's a bad sign. The students are finding better countries to go to.

I will keep an eye on this and watch the steps of where the smart students go. This is where the bright future will be. Hopefully, it will be here in the USA.

Regards,
Amy J

Z, This country is a much worse place than I ever would've thought.

Cheer up. Unlike what most conservatives will claim, liberal activism isn't dead.

Unfortunately, the Democratic Party might end up in shambles. Say goodbye to McAuliffe.
