FRANKFURT (AFX) - Construction industry association Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie (HDB) said it expects 2005 domestic construction sales to decline between 1-3 pct from the current year. It also reduced its 2004 domestic construction sales outlook to a decline of 4.5 pct from a decline of 2 pct.

HDB said it expects employment in the sector to decline by 50,000 this year and by 25,000 next year. This would put the total number of employees in the construction industry at 740,000 next year

NUERNBERG (AFX) - The German Labour Office does not expect a drastic improvement in the number of jobless next year, because the economy is seen growing by only 1.8 pct, said Heinrich Alt, a member of the Office's board.

Last month, the government said it expects the number of jobless to fall by 25,000 in 2005 compared to the current year, but Alt said today he expects a fall of only 15,000. The unadjusted jobless total was 4,206,556 in October, down 50,108 from September but up 55,302 year-on-year.
