I think it is simpler. I think that Putin had his own problems, and didn't want to have to make a commitment to our agenda, fearing it would consume resources and time to interject troops into a war with Iraq.

NO TIMETABLES, at least until we are scheduled to leave. That just invites waiting us out.

We cannot leave the Triangle in such a mess. We have to kill or capture the main body of insurgents, and disperse foreign interlopers, or leave a force capable of finishing the job.

It may be time for Rumsfeld to go. But I do not want to state it categorically. Lugar might be the answer, though.

Hatch would do fine as chief justice.

The main thing is to get ready for action, and take off the gloves to fight in the Triangle.
