Anybody here with restaurant favorites for Spain's Basque region - Bilbao, San Sebastian area? For nice restaurants (one star, say), would I need to bring along a tie and jacket now for lunch or dinner?

Thanks.

Just came back from Barcelona - beautiful city, beautiful weather, we had a great time.

We went to quite a bit of trouble to find Cal Pep. And when we did, we found out that it was closed. And not just for that day, apparently. A shame! I was looking forward to it, as I heard about it not only from you but from a couple of other people...

We had a a drink on Luz - basically a boat in the port of Barceloneta, turned into a bar/cafe with really cool music. It was a great place to be in at sunset.

Also in Barceloneta, we had dinner in a restaurant called 'Restaurant Barceloneta', which had delicious seafood tapas. They had quite a few main courses as well, mostly fish and seafood based, but the tapas were so good that we did not get that far :-)

Saturday night, we went to a great venue called Elephant - a villa, its gardens, and a huge red tent (dance floor) with elephant sculptures all around it. Very good music. Quite nice all around.

We also went to an Asian/Japanese restaurant called 'Shoko' that apparently turns into a club when the tables are cleared at around 1 AM. Food was nice, and the restaurant was quite nice, too.

One thing I noticed in Barcelona was that in the restaurants and bars we went to, even in the lobby of our hotel (which was apparently a trendy bar), the average age of patrons was significantly higher than what one would expect in other major cities. Instead, younger people seemed to be walking around in the streets with beer cans in their hands. I am told this is because young people make very little money in Barcelona (?)

Last but not least, we came back to Monaco last night with a disabilitating case of food poisoning which kept us up all night and is now making my head swim. After all that wonderful food, it is a shame that we got downed by a teensy bit of cheesecake (the only thing we ate in common all day) on the plane back. Ah well :-)
