Yesterday's defeat should make the Democratic Party do some serious soul-searching. The electorate's affirmation of Republican values may make the Dems reconsider whether a Hillary platform of big-government, universal healthcare is the way to go in 2008.

In any case, the next four years will be so good to Bush economically that the 2008 Presidential election will probably go to the Republican candidate. This may turn out to be a mixed blessing as the President after Bush may well preside over the start of a crushing depression.
