Czech President welcomes Bush win

Prague, Czech Republic, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Czech President Vaclav Klaus welcomed George W. Bush's presidential election victory Wednesday, calling him a standard bearer of American values.

Klaus, a rightwinger, said Bush symbolized "the best traditions of America," stressing his appreciation of the newly re-elected American president's commitment to personal liberty and conservative values.

His words of praise were echoed by Foreign Minister Cyril Svoboda.

The Czech news agency CTK quoted Svoboda as saying: "A majority of Americans gave their vote to George Bush in key matters, such as the war on terrorism or the war in Iraq. This has been the line of Czech diplomacy as well."

The Czech Republic joined the European Union May 1, 2004. The country, along with seven others that joined the European Union from former communist central Europe, signed letters of support for U.S. policy towards Iraq just before the invasion took place.

When the exit polls were leaking out yesterday I was starting to wonder. But as one of the dem operatives said last night, this country is pretty red.

Thank God for that.

I was getting worried too.....it looked to be going for Kerry midday. I think on election day there should be only one poll. Exit poll fine, and even give the results of say what is most important.....but NO NUMBERS.

I regained the faith of American common-sense and resolve.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the problem was that a lot of folks were "afraid" to admit they supported Bush within their own social circles. You can see that happening even in the Blue states where Bush lost by less than pre election poll or exit poll margins.

Diane Francis pointed this out in Canada's National Post as a distinct possibility a week ago, and it seems to have been bang on.
