twmoore, a few months back I heard a communications consultant on tv say that for Kerry, he'd advise to try to have the "war on terror" reframed. Because if it's "a war on terror", then you subtly (or not so subtly) have linked that to fear & war mentality - we're in a war, sacrifices must be made (civil liberties?, deficits?) and especially, why change strong leadership in the middle of a war?, etc. etc. But if the issue is reframed as a "war on terrorists", then that's somewhat less intimidating - we'd be talking about maybe a few thousand people and logically (?) only a small chance of a few getting to us, and only (?) a small chance, if any, able to destroy our country or economy. I'm not dismissing the terrorist threat here, just indicating that this pundit said that rephrasing the issue makes it more reasonable and comfortable for people not to link Pres. Bush with the importance of keeping on a guy (him) who claims through his ads to be a "War President" for our time.
