The utility company and industrial applications would allow for system or nationwide control and instrumentation without having to use the fiber optic networks that are carried inside the static lines running above the powerlines from tower to tower.

Someone like the Corp of Engineers, Procter & Gamble, Martin-Marietta, Anheuser, GM, Ford, etc., could connect all their systems and plants together this way without having to use all the expensive satellite and microwave communications currently in service.

Much cheaper to use the existing power lines, and tell the F-O operators to go eat grass. One hell of a big dynamic involved here.
