FOCUS: Tight Supply, China Demand Support Rubber Prices

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Asian rubber prices appear well supported through the rest of the year as the limited supply won't be enough to cope with steady demand, trade participants said Wednesday.

Nearby offers for the benchmark Thai ribbed smoked sheet rubber 3 grade ranged from 127 U.S. cents to 129 U.S. cents/level this week.

Traders forecast RSS3 prices will stay within the 125-130 U.S. cents/kg range until end-December because the monsoon season has reduced supply in Southeast Asia - the world's leading rubber producing and exporting region.

Demand, meanwhile, is expected to rise as consumers, especially the price-sensitive Chinese tire manufacturers, are switching to natural rubber, shunning the expensive crude oil-based synthetic rubber.
