Mq., I might be speaking out of turn, but it is my impression that the mention of God in political discourse is rarely more than symbolic, a way to find common ground, perhaps chatter, without saying anything too substantive.

Like I said, it's my impresion, and nothing more. Sort of like saying "crikey" when you stub your toe.

Part of the discourse, but mostly a time filler.

I doubt very much that there are more than 10 or 20 Americans who pray to God for some Muslims to kill because it is their avowed religious duty to do so.

In fact, our constitution precludes the mixing of state and religious business, even the praying of the Lord's Prayer in schools which you apparently believe takes place here--it doesn't because it is illegal.

Our country has as its foundation the separation of church and state. Hell [perhaps I shouldn't write such a satanic word], it's our raison d'etre, for crying out loud.

On the other hand..................

There are lots of Muslims who take their Book very seriously, who sharpen their knives waiting for a nice piece of GI head to separate from a body, who truly believe in the ludicrous fatwas about killing Americans wherever they may be found, from toddlers to vegetating oldsters.

There is simply no way to compare so-called religious extremism in the US and the kind of nuttery that drives jets into high rises.

The shoe simply doesn't fit.
