Originally, it was easy. Evangelicals adhered to Lutheran doctrine, Reformed adhered to Calvinism. Then, in the United States, evangelical came to be considered a quasi- fundamentalist mode. The chief distinction was that fundamentalists tended to be stand- offish and guard the purity of faith, while evangelicals were active about preaching the Gospel, and cared less about purity of doctrine than acceptance of the idea of Jesus as one's personal savior. Fundamentalists are rarely charismatic, whereas evangelicals often are. Fundamentalists still tend to Calvinism, by way of the Baptist Church, but evangelicals are more a product of Methodist enthusiasm and the revival movement.
