You are on the right track, but still not there. I had zero confidence that my ballot would be counted right either thru computer, punch card, or whatever means. Either side could corrupt the vote given opportunity.

Take your idea, but have the "receipt" counted on a separate system or device designed/controlled by a competing company. IE Both machines NOT Diebold for example.

Compare system totals. Investigate any material out of balance conditions.

Anything short of verifying the source document, untampered, is not an audit. It doesn't give assurance. Its just another hole for fraud. (From either side)

We have $800+ Billion to throw away in Iraq, why not spend another $1 Billion at home to bring certainty and credibility back to our elections. Design a system with controllable checks and balances. It can be done. The powers that be just don't want it done because they can't play their stupid games.

To all John Kerry supporters: ChinuSFO kindly unbanned me so I could extend a hand of respect to you hard-fighting warriors from John Kerry's team.

Obviously your passionate energy for your candidate was a vital factor in the very strong showing that he made in Tuesday's election.

Senator Kerry was gracious in his concession speech, and in his determination to work forward for the good of this country. President Bush was equally gracious, humbled by his victory and equally determined to work for the common good.

I believe our country has become polarized in two highly emotional and committed camps. A statistical chart of this distribution would look like a two-humped camel. Somewhere between the two humps is a mean or average where the great strength of this country lies.

In a two-humped camel distribution, the minority in the middle is tiny, but is vital to the success of either candidate. The tug of war that ensues when each candidate tries to garner that minority is destructive. It threatens to split the country in to warring camps that can barely tolerate each other.

I find many friends among the John Kerry for President thread. In fact, three of my closest SI friends reside here. They disagree with me on politics, but we share things that I share with few others in my life.

It's time to start looking forward to the next four years. I hope that period is marked by cooperation and teamwork from warriors from both sides, just as Senator Kerry envisioned.

Many things were said in the heat of battle. Some of them are indeed regrettable. It's time to put them behind us and press on to the future. One correspondent, who shall remain nameless, declared that he would spend the next four years attempting to discredit President Bush. This is a most unfortunate attitude, and one that I hope will be rejected by the vast majority of John Kerry supporters.

I hope you will direct your very considerable energies to working for the good of the United States of America.

Thanks once again to ChinuSFO for allowing me to comment on his popular thread one more time.
