Kerry did very well locally,
and considering this is the center of Texas that presented me with quite a skewed perspective, compared to Ohio. Tom DeLay's hand picked candidate, who was incumbant, lost in the state senate races to the democratic challanger.

I think the difference is the early voting period. There was no need for such crowding and tension on election day. People voted in a window of about a week.
