That much I get. But it is only part of it. The other part of it is based on the desire to impose one's culture upon the other (my personal experience says that the "moral/religious" side is a lot more keen on converting the "misguided" than the other way around).

The point about ME, etc is this: If you agree/sympathize with the desire of some "moral" Americans to limit the freedom of other Americans, then logically you should have even greater sympathy for the Islamic fundamentalists. After all, regardless of how big the culture rift is between Hollywood and Middle America, it is a orders of magnitude less than the rift between Hollywood and Middle Arabia.
